Ma dove vogliamo andare noi?! 17/10/2006 ESP - Attendance up in Spain MADRID (ACB) - Spain's gold-medal winning performance at this summer's FIBA World Championship appears to have had a knock-on effect on the ACB, with attendances at record levels. After the opening four rounds of fixtures, each ACB match has been watched by an average of 6,560 fans in the various arenas. That total is more than 20% up on the same stage of last season, while it is also higher than the previous best, when an average of 6,233 spectators attended the opening four weeks of the 2004/05 campaign. The nation's success in Japan is sure to have played a large part in the increased interest in ACB games this season. The Spanish celebrated their first-ever world title after thrashing Greece 70-47 in the final in September. Spain also had the tournament's leading player with superstar power forward Pau Gasol, even though he missed the final due injury. Nevertheless, Gasol picked up the Most Valuable Player award. The basketball fever should only increase when EuroBasket 2007 will be held in Spain.
